Crochet, you say?

20 Mar

Yesterday I got, as we say in my family, a burr up my butt, and decided to try and teach myself how to crochet. A blogger that I read linked to another blogger that she reads who had crocheted this beautiful blanket. It was then that I decided that I could crochet a blanket! I always choose the most overwhelming projects to start with.

Well, yesterday after work, my patient husband, who is always supportive of my creative endeavors, and I stopped at our local craft store and I got my supplies. Buying supplies is always my favorite part. I like picking stuff out and getting it all set up. I always loved shopping for school supplies before the summer ended. I got 3 lovely balls of yarn and this little hook. The yarn was on sale, score!

When I got home, I watched several videos, several times, and struggled through a bit of crocheting. I had to pull out my messy progress a few times, but then I felt like I was starting to get the hang of it. Until I realized that I was doing something wrong. It was getting smaller and smaller and my crochets were getting fewer and fewer for each row. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong, except obviously skipping too many when I turn for the next row. Hmm.

It doesn’t matter. I will just pull it all out tonight and start over. I’m learning! I’m wondering if I need a more visual aid, with drawings and diagrams, as opposed to someone talking to me in a video. Maybe I learn differently than that.

Will I ever crochet a blanket? It’s too early to say! I am optimistic though, always. I’ll post my progress as it comes.

AND, NO, I have not given up on cross stitch, or any of my other projects. I’ve made so much progress on that Christmas stitch along from The Frosted Pumpkin. I have 3 letters left and the border and then I’m done! My goal was to be done by January, and then by March, and now… my goal is to be done with it by the end of summer. Very doable.

Yay for you! I have only used a youtube video once to help me with a craft project. It turned out just fine.
I hope you enjoy the crocheting!
